Tonye Cole Should Run Unchallenged – Rivers APC Spokesman

by Area Talk

The Acting Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Darlington Nwauju has said that if the next Governor of the state were to be chosen on the grounds of competence, exposure and capacity to change the fortunes of the oil rich state for good, Pastor Tonye Cole mni., should run unchallenged as he towers above the other candidates in many ways.

He said while many were in politics because they are fans of certain actors, or because of what they intend to get for themselves, Tonye Cole will improve the lives and livelihoods of Rivers people when elected governor.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Port Harcourt office of the Correspondents Chapel on Monday Mr Nwauju stated that inspite of the recent defections of some members of the APC, the party remains strong and firmly rooted in the grassroots.
“I can tell you that many of the persons who left our party left alone as they could not convince members of the party to follow them”, he added.
He said most of the people who joined the party were drawn by the development strides of Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi when he served as governor of the state.

He called on members of the press to go beyond the pronouncements of politicians and conduct thorough investigation of issues to enable them present balanced stories.

Thanking members of the Chapel for their support in the dissemination of the party’s stories, Nwauju said his visit was to cement the relationship and to ask for continued partnership.

Responding, the Chairman of Correspondents Chapel, Mr Amaechi Okonkwo said he looks forward to a more inclusive political space in Rivers State ahead of the 2023 elections.
“Our desire is to see a more open political space in Rivers State with wider political space and not a one party state”, he said.
“It is really gladdening for us that a party as strong as APC is still firmly on ground in Rivers State and still planning to contest for the governorship position”.

The leader of the Chapel reassured the APC team of fair coverage even as his members remain non partisan in carrying out their duties.
