We are hiring to fill in the following position
Job Title: Accountant
Location: Port-Harcourt

Job Summary

This position is open for an enthusiastic accountant who will be responsible for managing our financial records, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, preparing accurate financial reports, tendering, taxation, and auditing, and supporting budgeting/forecasting processes. The role requires industry-specific expertise in oil and gas accounting, including cost accounting, joint venture accounting, and taxation applicable to upstream, midstream, or downstream operations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain general ledger and ensure all transactions are recorded accurately and timely.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and intercompany balances.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with SAS/IFRS/IAS and local regulations.
  • Monitor and analyze financial data related to exploration, drilling, production, procurement, and transportation.
  • Support Joint Venture (JV) accounting processes including cost recovery, billing, and partner reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations including VAT, WHT, and petroleum profit tax (PPT).
  • Assist in internal and external audits by providing required documentation and explanations.
  • Prepare accruals, depreciation schedules, asset capitalization, and cost allocations.
  • Collaborate with procurement, operations, marketing, and project teams to ensure accurate expense tracking and cost control.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Implement internal controls and ensure financial policies and procedures are followed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, ICAN) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years accounting experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Knowledge of oil & gas financial practices including exploration and production (E&P) accounting.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong understanding of tax/VAT, FIRS and other financial regulations.
  • Attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP tools, MS Office, and business intelligence platforms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
