In the late hours of Friday, the news of the killing and mutilation of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada Division, Bako Angbasim, by members of a notorious cult group, Icelanders, went viral.

The news of Bako’s death resulted in widespread mourning by stakeholders in the state who noted that he was instrumental towards stabilising many troubled areas in Rivers State.

It was gathered that Bako was reportedly killed while returning from an operation in Odeimude forest, Ahoada East, where he led his team to dislodge a camp operated by cultists and kidnappers in the area.

The attack took place after Bako and his team ran out of ammunition and were ambushed by the cultists, who were armed with four General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs).

Bako was captured alive by the cultists, who took him away and decapitated him, cutting off his hands and genitals.

The cultist was reportedly led by a ‘point-one’& gang leader named 2Baba.

According to a source, “there was a shootout for several minutes between the DPO and 2Baba-led Iceland. The bullets were not penetrating either of the sides till the policemen ran out of ammunition.

“While the DPO attempted running but he had a muscle cramp and they caught him alive and took him away. For over four hours, no reinforcement came to his rescue”.

It was further learnt that despite the shootings bullets could not penetrate the men from both sides.
