The commissioning of a generator house by the Executive Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Dr. Chidi Lloyd, has sparked various reactions. The event, which took place on Thursday, 22nd February 2024, was officiated by the Vice Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Prof. Okechukwu Onuchukwu, at the council Headquarters.
Many people have taken to social media to express their concerns about the celebration of a generator house in this day and age. Comr. Mfata Mfata questioned why a local government that has been without electricity for over 7 years would be excited about such a development.
In a post, he highlighted the irony of a local government chairman spending millions to organize an event for the commissioning of a generator house that would only power the Council Secretariat and not the entire LGA. He emphasized the lack of electricity in the entire LGA and criticized the priorities of the local government.
Another Facebook user described the action as a mockery, reflecting the sentiments of many who feel that celebrating a generator house in a time when access to electricity should be a basic necessity is misplaced. The reactions to this event highlight the need for sustainable solutions to address the energy needs of communities, rather than temporary fixes like generator houses.
