Responsibilities:
- Oversee the management and operation of waterways ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Monitor water levels, flow rates, and environmental conditions to assess river health and inform decision-making.
- Coordinate river traffic, including commercial vessels, recreational boats, and other watercraft, to ensure safe and efficient navigation.
- Implement flood control measures and emergency response protocols to mitigate risks and protect communities along the riverbanks.
- Collaborate with government agencies, environmental organizations, and local stakeholders to develop and implement river management plans.
- Conduct inspections and maintenance of river infrastructure, such as locks, dams, and navigation aids, to ensure reliability and safety.
- Lead a team of river operators and technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure operational excellence.
- Engage with the public through outreach programs, educational initiatives, and community events to promote river conservation and appreciation.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology, Environmental Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- At least 5 years of experience in river management, hydrological analysis, or water resource engineering
- Strong knowledge of hydrological principles, river morphology, and watershed management practices.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards governing river navigation, water quality, and environmental protection.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Leadership abilities, with a track record of managing teams and driving results in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and other relevant software tools for data analysis and mapping.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and occasional travel as required.
