The governorship candidate of Social Democratic party in Rivers state, magus Abe said the former government of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi ordered them to attack Members of Grassroot Development Initiative GDI in the state when the group was formed.
Abe disclosed this while speaking during a peace and security summit organized for 2023 governorship candidates in Rivers state
According to him, the group was attacked in abonema.
“When GDI was established in Rivers State and the group was going from one LGA to the other, the government in power at the time gave an order that the group should be attacked and they were attacked in Abonema and other places.
“But against the order of the government of the time, Gokana LGA was the only Local Government GDI was not attacked in the early days because i insisted that no one should attack them in Gokana and turned down all orders to the contrary.
Magnus was a former ally of Chibuike Amaechi who was attacked during a rally in Rivers State on the orders of the then commissioner of police, Joseph Mgbu.
The governorship candidate of APC, Tonye Cole, AA, Dawari George, LP, Beatrice Itubo, among others where in attendance except the Governorship candidate of PDP, Mr Sim Fubara, who was said to have boycotted the peace event.
