The Lagos State Police Command has issued a strong warning to potential protesters, stating that it will take decisive action against any demonstration that disrupts the free flow of traffic.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, emphasized the police’s dedication to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the face of planned protests in the state.

Hundeyin revealed that the police are aware of the planned protests and are ready to implement necessary measures to protect the well-being of Lagosians.

He stated that nothing will be allowed to hinder the free flow of traffic or disturb the peaceful environment needed for residents to carry out their lawful duties.

This announcement comes amidst a series of protests across some states in Nigeria, with demonstrators voicing concerns over the high cost of living and rising food prices.

Part of the statement reads partly:

“The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni has assured Lagosians that the Command has taken necessary measures to ensure the safety of lives and property, free flow of traffic, and a peaceful environment for carrying out their respective lawful duties.

“This assurance is crucial following reports of nationwide protests set to begin on Monday, February 26, 2024, an action that could disrupt commercial activities and impede the free flow of traffic.

“The Command will uphold its duty to ensure that no individual or group infringes on the fundamental human rights of others, particularly the rights to freedom of movement and dignity of human persons.”
