The Igbu-Akoh Youth Congress, a group operating in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, is calling on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to fulfill his promise of a one hundred million naira reward for information leading to the capture of gang leader David Gift, also known as 2Baba. Gift is suspected to be involved in the murder of the late SP Bako Angbashim, the Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada Police Division.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the group, Comrade Hector Ekeakita, on Wednesday 20 March, 2024, states that the governor is yet to make pronouncement on the one hundred million naira bounty placed on David Gift since over three weeks his corpse was discovered and retrieved by the Police in a forest in Ebrass, Ahoada West Local Government Area of the state.
The statement read:
“While commending the governor for his support to the Police and other security agencies in bringing down the cult leader, David Gift, and his unwavering commitment to ensure lasting peace in Ahoada East LGA, it is our view that His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara should redeem the pledge in record time so that it will not be perceived by observers as one of those unfulfilled campaign promises made by some politicians, who lack intergrity, to win the heart of electorates when seeking elective positions.
“It is our firm believe that His Excellency will keep to his word in redeeming the pledge of 100 million naira bounty he placed on the gang leader, David Gift.
“We also urge the Rivers State Government to provide adequate succour to the next of kin/immediate family of SP Bako Angbashim in recognition and appreciation of immense contribution of the killed DPO in crime reduction and eradication in the state.
“Finally, we urge the Police and other relevant security agencies not to relent in going after sponsors of cultism and other violent crimes in Ahoada East LGA”.
Governor Fubara had placed one hundred million naira bounty on the cult kingpin on September 9, 2023, during an emergency State Security Council meeting a day after SP Bako was killed by David Gift and his gang.
