Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Federal Government to unravel circumstances surrounding the reoccurring invasion of the residence of Justice Mary Odili. Noting that if anything happens to the Odilis, the Federal Government should be held responsible.
At a press conference in Abuja on October 31, Wike, said it is unacceptable for the Federal Government to feign ignorance or turn a blind eye to the obvious threat to the life of the wife of the former Governor of the State, Dr. Peter Odili, who is a Supreme Court Judge on the panel that gave judgement that ousted the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Bayelsa State.
Wike who spoke on behalf of major stakeholders from Rivers State, stressed that it is highly condemnable for the Federal Government to pretend not to know about the invasion of the residence of a Justice of the Supreme Court, or the intimidation and seizure of the International Passport of former Governor Odili four months ago.
Noting that the invasion points to a sinister plot to assassinate Justice Odili, her husband and Children. Reiterating that mere denial by the Federal Government is not enough to convince Rivers people that they are not involved. He tasked the Federal Government to swing into action to unmask the perpetuators, to assure Rivers people of their innocence.
Wike observed that the said Court order issued by the Magistrate Court was obtained under very disturbing circumstances, as the search warrant had a different street name and number from the residence of Justice Odili.
Wike said, “Is it when the person has been killed? So, you should now give us that confidence. Make us to believe that surely this your denial, you are in order. And by saying so, having denied, look at actions you have taken.
“Infact, what I thought was that by now, the Chief Magistrate would have invited for interrogation, those who applied, What happened, the so-called man who is the whistle blower. (Aliyu Umar). How did he blow this whistle.?”
He called on the Attorney General to probe the invasion and take drastic action to assure Nigerians that they are serious about protecting lives. He opined that a serious Government would have apprehended the masterminds behind the attack. He tasked the Nigerian Bar Association to also swing into action to get to the roots.
Wike expressed gratitude to Rivers people for their proactive action. For rushing to the residence of the Odilis on Friday night, when the security operatives launched their invasion, he stressed is very heartwarming.
