The Federal Government has decided to rename the Minna Airport in Niger State after President Bola Tinubu just hours before the airport’s inauguration on Monday.

Initially, the airport was named after the late Abubakar Imam by the FG as part of a larger initiative to name 15 airports in the country after prominent Nigerian personalities.

During a media briefing at the Government House in Minna, the state Commissioner for Information, Binta Mamman, announced the renaming of the airport and shared details about the preparations for President Tinubu’s visit. The President is set to inaugurate the remodeled and upgraded terminal at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport.

The commissioner explained that the airport’s remodeling was originally a federal project, but due to delays, the state government took over to ensure its speedy completion. She also highlighted the airport’s significance as an alternative to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, given its proximity to the nation’s capital.

Representing the Commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Aminu Takuma, Dr. Isah Adamu discussed the renaming of the airport as a gesture of appreciation for President Tinubu’s support to the state. He emphasized that the decision to rename the airport was within the FG’s authority since they had initially named it.

Additionally, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Musa Salihu, shared details about the state-of-the-art agricultural equipment procured by the government to support food security initiatives. The equipment, including tractors, power tillers, planters, and harvesters, will be inaugurated at the Airport City Free Agro Processing Zone for a symbolic demonstration of irrigation farming.

Salihu expressed confidence in the state’s agricultural potential under the leadership of Governor Mohammed Bago, envisioning Niger State as the agricultural hub of Nigeria.
