Two police officers attached to the Aluu Divisional Police Station in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State were reportedly killed by gunmen during an attack along the Mbodo-Aluu axis of Obiri Ikwerre Road.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 9 p.m. while the officers were carrying out a routine stop-and-search operation at a security checkpoint.
In a viral video, circulating on social media shows the lifeless bodies of the officers, still dressed in their uniforms, lying in pools of blood at the scene.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, accompanied by members of the Command’s management team, visited the scene on Tuesday for an on-the-spot assessment.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, told our correspondent that the Command would issue an official statement on the incident.
