Prof. Princewill Anthony Chike has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Port Harcourt.
Prof. Princewill Chike hails from Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State.
Prof. Chike is a Nigerian professor of medicine and public health in the Department of Human Physiology at the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria
He served as Commissioner for Health in Rivers State from September 2017 until his dismissal by Governor Nyesom Wike in December 2021 for hosting a session of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria without gubernatorial approval.[2][3]
During his tenure, Chike contributed to foundational policies supporting health insurance frameworks in the state.
In August 2025, he was appointed Chairman of the Rivers State University Governing Council and Chairman of the Board of the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Agency, positions aimed at advancing educational and universal health coverage initiatives amid ongoing state health reforms.
