Job Summary
The Mechanical Technician is responsible for performing preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on mechanical equipment and systems used in SNG operations. The role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation of rotating and static equipment in compliance with company procedures, industry standards, health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements.
Responsibilities
Mechanical Maintenance
- Perform installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, gearboxes, valves, and motors
- Maintain static equipment including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, piping, and valves
- Carry out alignment, balancing, lubrication, and bearing replacement activities
- Inspect and maintain seals, gaskets, couplings, and mechanical components
- Support overhauls, shutdowns, and turnaround maintenance activities
Troubleshooting & Repair
- Diagnose mechanical faults and perform root cause analysis
- Repair or replace defective components to minimize downtime
- Assist in equipment testing and performance verification after maintenance
Documentation & Coordination
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, and technical manuals
- Complete work orders, maintenance reports, and inspection records
- Coordinate with operations, electrical, and instrumentation teams
Safety & Compliance
- Follow HSE policies, permit-to-work systems, LOTO procedures, and confined space requirements
- Use appropriate tools, PPE, and safe work practices
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and risk assessments
Requirements:
- NTC, ND, HND or BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Mechanics, or related engineering field
- Minimum of 5–8 years of experience in mechanical maintenance within oil and gas or heavy industrial environments
- Experience with rotating and static equipment commonly used in oil and gas facilities
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills
- Knowledge of diesel and gas engines, pumps, compressors, valves, and piping systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals
- Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Familiarity with maintenance tools, precision instruments, and lifting equipment
- Strong safety awareness and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Candidates must possess strong verbal and written communication skills
Working Conditions
- May require shift work, on-call duty, and emergency response
- Work may be in remote locations
- Exposure to hazardous environments requiring strict safety compliance
