The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has officially declared Monday, March 11, 2024, as the first day of Ramadan. This announcement was made following the sighting of the moon in various parts of the country on Sunday, the 29th day of the Month of Shaban, indicating that March 11 marks the beginning of Ramadan 1445.
In a statement, Abubakar stated, “We have received reports from Muslim leaders across the nation confirming the sighting of the moon. Therefore, we have accepted this sighting and have declared Monday as the first day of Ramadan.”
He called upon the entire Muslim community in the country to commence their Ramadan fast on Monday in accordance with Islamic teachings. Additionally, he urged Muslims to utilize this sacred month to pray for an end to the prevailing insecurity in the country.
Abubakar also encouraged all Muslims to pray for their leaders to govern with the fear of God during Ramadan. He advised those who are financially able to assist the less fortunate by providing them with food during this holy month.
Earlier today, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the sighting of the Ramadan moon, signaling the commencement of the fasting period in the Islamic calendar. This announcement was made via the @Haramaininfo platform on Sunday.
