The Federal high court sitting in Port Harcourt has ordered the Federal Lawmaker Chinyere Igwe to remain in the custody of the police

The court presided by Justice Stephen DAYLOP-PAM today during the court sitting ordered that Chinyere Igwe be sent back to the custody of the police and thereafter reserved ruling on his bail application to a date that would be communicated to the counsels.

Igwe who is standing trial over alleged money laundering and possessing in his custody the sum of 498,000 dollars had however earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Meanwhile the state Government has taken over the prosecution of the matter from the police.

Counsel to the Rivers State Government Chidi Eke informed the court today of a fiat by the Federal Attorney general directing the state government to take over the matter.

Trial judge DAYLOP-PAM while granting the request of the state counsel to take over the matter adjourned the substantive suit to the 4th of May for hearing.
