Gov. Wike Makes new Appointment

About a month to his exit from office, Governor Nyesom Wike has appointed new chairman and members for the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.

The new chairman nominated for the RSIEC, was Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd) according to notice of invitation for screening sent out for the new members by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Justice Enebeli retired as as a judge of Rivers State High Court barely a month ago.

Governor Nyesom Wike had also announced the appointment of Justice Enebeli retd as Chairman of RSIEC during a dinner organised to mark his retirement on March 31, 2023.

Thus, it was not a surprise that Enebeli’s name and other nominees were sent to the Rivers House of Assembly for screening and approval.

In a memo, the Clerk of the House of Assembly, Stanford Oba, said the nominee are expected to appear before the state’s lawmakers on Tuesday 2nd May 2023 for screening.

Aside Enebeli, the other nominees are: Prof Emenike Weli, Barr Adolphus. A. Brown, Dr Lasbury Nnah, Pastor Tamunotonye Tobins, Barr( Mrs) Chinwe Ihua-Maduenyi and
Mrs Nuka Kponi.

According to the invitation letter,”nominees are requested to submit 35 sets of photocopies of their credentials to the office of the clerk and come along with original copies of their credentials including tax clearance certificates for the screening”.

RSIEC has the sole responsibility of conducting elections for the Local government Chairmen and Councillors of the local Council Areas.
