Just In: University Unions, SSANU & NASU declare 7- day Warning Strike

by Kabiru Lawal

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) have announced a 7-day warning strike due to the federal government’s delay in paying their salaries.

The decision to go on a warning strike was made by the joint action committee of the two unions after a meeting held in Akure over the weekend.

SSANU President, Mohammed Ibrahim, revealed this while presenting the Communiqué of the meeting to reporters in Abuja on Monday.

He stated that their demand for the payment of four months’ worth of withheld salaries following the 2022 nationwide strike has not been addressed.

Ibrahim explained that the warning strike was a last resort after numerous protest letters and communications with the federal government failed to result in the payment of the withheld salaries.

This action comes amidst nationwide protests by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) against the current economic challenges, which have caused a significant increase in the cost of living across the country.
